Pastoral Care is the commitment Avondale School makes to the health and wellbeing of each student, developing character values and shaping whole school teaching and learning. It happens in the classroom, in the playground, on the sporting field and in all co-curricular activities. It nourishes our students as they learn and is the shared responsibility of all staff, all of who are committed to leading by example.

Two full time chaplains and two part time counsellors are also on hand to assist students with personal issues and everyday challenges.

The large scale Week of Worship (WOW) in the Secondary School and the Primary campus Super Week of Mega Praise (SWOMP) are the focus of the spiritual year, encouraging students to grow in friendship with god. At these times the campus comes alive and is renewed as a school community.

Primary Campus

  • Optional Bible Studies are offered to those students who wish to extend their walk with God. Group Bible Studies are offered either before or after school, or at lunch.
  • A number of social skills and resilience programs aimed at increasing the resilience and happiness of children have been incorporated into the school curriculum. Kindy classes experience the PALS program, helping children learn skills to develop friendships and lessen anxiety. The Friends for Life and Friends for Youth programs are run in the Year 4 and Year 6 classrooms to strengthen coping skills and life management, while the Seasons for Growth program runs as a small group to help those in need manage and understand grief.
  • Primary School Chapel is held every Friday morning with a fun program of worship, prayer and song. Students look forward to interesting guest speakers and class performances. Infant students meet separately as a group following the Upper Primary Chapel.
  • The large scale Super Week of Mega Praise (SWOMP) is the focus of the Primary School spiritual year, encouraging students to grow in friendship with God. At this time the campus comes alive and renewed as a school community.
  • Two part time counsellors are also on hand to assist students with personal issues and everyday challenges.

Secondary Camps

  • Bible Studies are offered Tuesday to Friday mornings for those students wishing to grow their relationship with Jesus. Pastors and theology students from Avondale College lead out in these sessions.
  • The large scale Week of Worship (WOW) in the Secondary School is the focus of the spiritual year, encouraging students to grow in friendship with God. Throughout WOW the campus comes alive and is renewed as a school community with students leading out in prayer, song and service.
  • The Secondary Campus meets as a school body every Monday morning for a Chapel program that invites reflection and encourages participation. Guest speakers, special themes and worship music deliver aspects of God’s love and story to the student body.
  • Two part time counsellors are on hand to assist students with personal issues and everyday challenges.

STORMCo

Fundamental to Avondale School teaching is that service to others really matters and that students grow in character, leadership and ability through experience.

Every year secondary students and staff, united in their cause, their friendships and their service participate in STORMCo (Service to Others Really Matter Company). The heart of STORM Co is our service in the community. Teams from Avondale School visit the outback communities of Cobar and Wee Waa where the average child does not experience the same positive opportunities that students of Avondale School are offered on a daily basis.

Cambodia Schoolies

Avondale Schoolies are given the opportunity of a life-changing alternative to traditional schoolies activities. Building on our focus on service to others in our school, Cambodia offers a unique overseas experience in making a difference in our world for our students about to embark on life beyond school. Many students have changed what they want to do and study following what they experience in Cambodia.

Participating in a service trip, Avondale Schoolies team up with International "RestoreOne" to work in Cambodian orphanages and build houses in remote villages, all while experiencing Cambodian history, culture, foods and people.

In an adventure just a little beyond the ordinary the Cambodia Schoolies experience not only makes a difference in the lives of those it helps, but also in the lives of its participants, cementing relationships, impact and memories.
