Are You Hungry?
24 February 2017
What is your favourite food? Do you remember the rst time you tasted it? I love Thai food! The rst time I tried it was in 1993 at a little restaurant in College Place, Washington. The rst bite sent my mind spinning as my taste buds signalled, “This is amazing!” Today, years later, I still look forward to those special mornings when my wife says “Do you want to get some Thai food tonight?” Throughout the day I think about Pad Thai, Green Curry and skewers dipped in peanut sauce. I can’t wait to sit down with my girl and taste the delectable steaming dish set before me. Do you relate? Are you feeling hungry just reading about it?
This week our Year 12 class took our Week of Worship in the Secondary School. They chose the theme Hungry because they wanted to talk about their hunger for God and His Hunger for us. Amity B told a hilarious story on Monday about two foxes who refused to take help, and therefore su ered the consequences. Tyler H highlighted the importance of what he called ‘Jesushood’ or walking through life with a group of friends who help us keep our eyes on Jesus. Caleb K talked about the hilarities of his family at the dinner table and how special it is to him to know that God has invited all of us to come sit at His table and eat. Jaiden G highlighted a number of reasons He is Hungry for God and personally related that He is hungry for God because God is, in his words “My best mate...He has the whole universe to look after, but He takes the time to hang out with me!” Mitchell L talked about the Spiritual food that God has prepared and challenged us to “let Him feed you...don’t resist the Spiritual feast that God prepared for you!” Personal testimonies by Sophie G, Sarah A, Cara T and Estella M have highlighted how God never gives up on us through the darkest of times. The amazing worship music and items that Year 12 students brought this week added to a Spiritual feast that has left all of us inspired!
Are you hungry? Are you anticipating the next time you sit down in front of your favourite food? Is it Thai, Italian, Mexican or just good ole Aussie home cooking? Can you picture the steaming plate and the cold drink you’re going to wash it down with? Stop for a moment and imagine how you’ll feel just after you nish the meal - that deep satisfying feeling of being full, satis ed, happy and at peace. Now ask yourself these questions ... Am I hungry for something even deeper? Is there a hunger in my soul that food, hobbies, friendships, money, technology, entertainment, even my children can’t ll? Jesus said, “Come unto me all you who are weary and carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest!”
I’d like to invite you to come to the table that God provides through His Son Jesus Christ. He has prepared a table for each of us in the midst of our crazy schedules, our victories, our defeats, our joys and our sorrows. He wants to be your best mate. He has done everything possible to be in relationship with you - in fact He gave His life on the cross to save you. He said “Blessed are they who hunger and thirst after righteousness for they shall be lled!” Are you hungry? Come to Him and He will ll you up. That’s His promise!
