Use It or Lose it!

23 February 2018

A few years ago, Jennifer and I visited our family in Italy and started learning Italian. At first we struggled with different sounds and sentence structures, but after a month of practice I was surprised by how much we could say and understand. When we came back to Australia and stopped using this new language, we started forgetting words and phrases. I am sure you have heard the cliché, “Use it or lose it”. That’s exactly what happened!

This principle applies in the spiritual dimension as well. Faith in God is like a muscle. The more you use it, the stronger it becomes. The manual for getting this muscle in shape is the Bible, our personal trainer is Jesus and He speaks to us through the Holy Spirit. If you submit yourself to His leadership and His guidance, you will discover how to use the faith muscle every day.

This week our Secondary School celebrated WEEK OF WORSHIP (WOW) with the theme ‘I Am’. Our Year 12 students presented an amazing program. Next Monday we are launching our Primary School SUPER WEEK OF MEGA PRAISE (SWOMP) and our theme is the ‘Greatest Show’! Throughout the week students will explore the plan God has for each one of us and discover what it means to step out in faith and trust in Him. We want each child to know that they were created in God’s image to be unique and special. We want them to know that God loves and accepts them no matter how different they may feel. Our prayer is that every child at Avondale School will grow in faith as they step out and learn to trust in Jesus.

Prayer: Father God I want my faith in you to grow stronger and more agile. Please teach me to trust you today and may the Holy Spirit guide my thoughts and actions for your glory in Jesus’ name. Amen!
