Is your Y greater than U?

“What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived. It is what difference we have made to the lives of others that will determine the significance of the life we lead.” Nelson Mandela
These words of Mandela resonate, inspire and challenge us all. Like us, Mandela’s life was filled with fun, family, school, dreams, desires, heartache, hopes, tragedy, pain, beauty, connection, isolation, opportunity, hardship, joy, despair, learning and victories. Yet when the pages of history speak of the GREAT PEOPLE, they will tell his story.
Will they tell mine? Will they tell yours? Why not? History and the world today are filled with awesome inspiring stories of people who live out and call us to greatness! None more so than the person history not only celebrates and testifies to, but the one history measures itself by - Jesus Christ. What we celebrate in Mandela and what inspires us in Jesus, is that their life was lived not for their own purpose or pleasure. Their life was lived in service to others. Their ‘WHY’ was greater than themselves!
“For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many.” Matthew 20:28 Jesus did not come into this world to make a name or to make a point. He came to make a difference!
Gateway Campus Church exists to help people Know God, Find Freedom, Awaken Purpose and Make a Difference. In partnering with Avondale School we believe we can Make a Difference in our community and our world as we learn to love people well. Love requires relationships and so there are four relational spaces where we are learning to love well (see graphic below).
Our partnership with Avondale School is dynamic - ever shifting, growing and becoming a stronger bridge to connection, community and wellbeing on campus.
From time to time you might see an invite to an event, or your kids might hear someone from Gateway taking a Chapel talk, or there may be an invitation to come to a discussion on parenting in the 21st Century, or an opportunity to serve alongside at Christmas Carols and Soccer Stars. Whatever the connection know that:
Our why is to Make a Difference. Our way is to Love Well.
I believe with all my heart that each and every one of us is called to greatness! Greatness not as fame, but rather greatness as Jesus, Mandela, Mother Teresa, Gandhi and many others who have embraced it - Service! Have a Y>U.
