COVID Safety

We want to remind all parents and carers that students who have symptoms (temperature above 37.5 and/or cough and/or sore throat) need to be tested and provide a copy of a negative result or medical clearance before returning to school. You can find a COVID-19 testing clinic here. Please email admin@avondaleschool.nsw.edu.au with a screen shot of the test result or medical clearance. Thanks for working with us to limit the transmission of the virus in order to keep our students safe and our school open

Under current government regulations, the following currently apply to parents:

  • Parents are free to come to the Administration Office, Primary and Secondary Offices, Canteen and Uniform Shop as required.
  • Only parents of Kindy to Year 2 students may walk students on to campus at the beginning of the day for the first 2 weeks of school to allow students to settle in.
  • Parents may pick up from the side gate.
  • Parents must not mingle on campus and need to leave promptly.
  • Parents of students from Years 3 upwards need to use kiss and drop zones and carline.
  • Parents are able to come on to school campus for a pre-arranged meeting with a teacher.
  • Parent volunteers are allowed to support educational activities in classrooms as requested by teachers.
Responding to COVID-19 Cases

We have plans in place to respond to any suspected or confirmed case of COVID-19 at school. We will work closely with NSW Health and will communicate with parents and caregivers if a situation arises. In this emergency situation, email will be our primary form of communication, so please check emails regularly. There are 2 possible scenarios:We close for 1-2 days for deep cleaning and contact tracing. No students or staff would be allowed on campus during this time and we would provide basic learning activities. Identified close contacts would be required to self-isolate and be tested

We are directed to close for 14 days and all students and staff would be required to self-isolate. During this time staff will have greater time to provide online learning through Landscape to the level that you were used to during our previous period of remote learning.

We are disappointed to have to cancel or postpone many of our events and activities, however, the safety of our community remains the priority. Please know that we are using our creativity to find fun, memorable and safe alternatives for our students. We appreciate the support from our community and know that as we work together to stay safe, our school can remain open. If we can support your family in any way, please let us know.

Kind regards

Deb Cooper

The Power of being Present

We were born with the need to connect. Being heard and understood feeds deeply into our worth as an individual and the belief that we matter. Growing resilient children who have a strong, positive sense of self is nurtured by being present with them, even for a few moments a day.  Life...

Experiment. Fail. Learn. Repeat.

Fail has become a dirty word. None of us set out to fail. It’s not a life plan, a fun way to spend a day or something we brag about. When we fall flat on our faces it wounds our self-confidence and causes embarrassment, but should it? I listened yesterday...

Learning How to Learn

When our students returned to campus after the period of remote learning, our teachers spent time reflecting on the experience of teaching remotely. We asked teachers what they would do more of and what they would do less of as a result of what they had learned. One clear theme...

In a world where you can be anything, BE KIND

In a world where you can be anything, BE KIND The topic of bullying in schools hits the headlines regularly. It’s heartbreaking to think about children being treated unkindly, victimised, traumatised. What allows a child to treat another child this way? An inability to show empathy and compassion are major...

The Importance of Play

Plato once said, “Our children from their earliest years must take part in all the more lawful forms of play, for if they are not surrounded with such an atmosphere they can never grow up to be well conducted and virtuous citizens.” He also advocated for 'play sanctuaries' for ...

Aiming for High Rates of Transmission

At the moment we are focused as a community on reducing transmission of COVID-19. Our efforts with hand-washing, hand sanitiser, cough etiquette and masks all have one goal; preventing us from catching and spreading COVID-19. But there are things we want our students to catch. Spaces where high transmission rates...

Survive and Thrive

As I have watched my sons complete school and transition to life after school, it has been with great stress on my part. Will they survive, or even thrive? Do they know how to cope in the real world? Can they think for themselves and be independent. Can they chart...

A Term to Remember

As we come to the end of another term, I can’t help thinking about all the things that have changed over the past few months. We began the term with remote learning and then had to plan for and manage the transition back to face to face learning, with loads...
