PRIMARY TEACHER LIBRARIAN

PRIMARY TEACHER LIBRARIAN
Full-Time

Seventh-day Adventist Schools (North NSW) is seeking a suitably qualified, experienced and enthusiastic primary teacher librarian. This is a full-time position, commencing at the beginning of Term 1, 2026.

Avondale School is an independent preschool to Year 12 school owned and operated by the Seventh-day Adventist Church. The school is located on an expansive rural campus in Cooranbong, New South Wales, in the Lake Macquarie area. With a history of providing quality Christian education for over 120 years, our mission focuses on providing opportunities for students to know Christ, develop their full potential and cultivate a love of learning. We seek to use our extensive resources and skilled staff team to deliver innovative learning and wellbeing opportunities that engage students and develop curiosity. We aspire to change the world one graduate at a time through the development of character, critical thinking, creativity, communication, collaboration and citizenship.

The successful applicant will:

  • model and nurture an active relationship with Jesus and have a knowledge of and a commitment to supporting the ethos and mission of Avondale School;
  • have an understanding and commitment to the purpose and ethos of Adventist Education and the Church as described by Adventist Schools Australia and our Statements of Belief;
  • coordinate and manage engaging library programs, resources, and spaces that foster a love of reading and learning;
  • collaborate effectively with classroom teachers to integrate information and digital literacy skills across the curriculum;
  • promote a strong reading culture through initiatives such as Book Week, book fairs, and the Premier’s Reading Challenge;
  • curate, manage, and evaluate physical and digital resources that enhance teaching and learning outcomes;
  • provide leadership in the use of emerging technologies, digital platforms, and online resources to support students and staff;
  • demonstrate strong expertise in digital literacy and familiarity with library systems (e.g., AccessIt, Oliver);
  • possess postgraduate teacher-librarian qualifications (preferred, but not essential) alongside formal teaching qualifications and current NESA registration;
  • bring classroom teaching experience and the capacity to work with students across Kindergarten to Year 6;
  • demonstrate excellent interpersonal, organisational, and leadership skills, with the ability to collaborate across the pimary and secondary iCentre (library) teams; and
  • maintain a comprehensive understanding of duty of care and place a high value on child wellbeing.

We are a child-safe organisation committed to protecting children’s rights to safety, respect, inclusion, and empowerment. All applicants must hold a valid Working with Children Check and be willing to complete mandatory safeguarding training before working with children.

Only those with a legal right to work in Australia may apply, and the appointing body reserves the right to fill this position at its discretion and to close applications early.

Expressions of interest can be sent to the Human Resources Manager, Mr. Jamie Roan: jamie.roan@nnsw.adventist.edu.au

Please provide a supporting statement addressing the essential and desirable criteria as detailed in the position description, a CV listing qualifications and experience, and the contact details of three referees.

Applications close 21 September.
