A Teacher’s Gratitude

The View - Nov 21, 2025

I’m fortunate to experience Avondale School through two lenses—as a parent and as a teacher. My children, Mahalia and Jett, are students here, and I’ve taught both Year 4 and Year 2 on the Primary Campus. This unique dual role allows me to witness firsthand the richness of Avondale’s student-focused learning environment, both through a staff member lens and through the education of my own children.

As my firstborn Mahalia has just graduated from Year 12 and will be entering her next stage of life, I can’t help but reflect on her journey. From Mahalia’s very first day at the ELC to completing her final HSC exams, Avondale has been a place where my daughter has been nurtured, challenged, given opportunities, and prepared for the future. I have watched her grow into a determined, capable, compassionate and spiritual young woman, and I know this is largely because of the dedication and excellence of Avondale teachers.

Working alongside many of these teachers, I see firsthand the commitment, care, encouragement, and professionalism that goes into every lesson, every day! As a parent, I am thankful beyond measure for the way staff have guided, supported, and gone the extra mile for Mahalia. Avondale is more than just a school, it is a community, a place to belong, and a place where students are equipped for life beyond the classroom.

Mahalia’s journey from the ELC to Year 12 has been an incredible experience, and the impact of her years here will stay with her for life. Now, as Mahalia steps into her next exciting season of life, she does so with a firm foundation and confidence. As a parent, I have two important words I’d like to say to Avondale School — overwhelming gratitude!

“Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it” (Proverbs 22:6).
