Over the past two days, the Avondale School Senior Boys Basketball Team proudly represented our school at the Basketball NSW Schools State Championships, competing in Division One. It was a highly competitive tournament, with top-tier schools from across the state converging to battle for the title.
Day one saw the team off to a promising start with a tightly contested win in the opening game, followed by a narrow loss. With everything on the line, the boys approached day two with determination, facing a must-win match to secure a place in the semi-finals. Displaying remarkable grit and resilience, they rose to the occasion and claimed the victory. In the semi-final, the team faced a formidable opponent in St Augustine’s College.
In a high-pressure match that tested both skill and mental toughness, our boys held strong to edge out a hard-fought win, earning their place in the grand final. The final saw a rematch against St Luke’s College, who had narrowly defeated us in the group stage. Undeterred, our team brought their best to the court. With courage, determination, and outstanding teamwork, they delivered a performance to remember and emerged as champions.
This incredible achievement is a testament to the hard work, dedication, and growth our students have shown throughout the past few years. We are extremely proud of each student for reaching this milestone.A heartfelt thank you goes to Coach TJ, Mr Kea, and Pr AJ for their unwavering support and guidance throughout the tournament.
The team has dedicated this victory to their beloved coach, mentor, and friend, Mr Wayne Ferris. His impact on our basketball program and on the lives of our students has been immeasurable. He is dearly missed.
