Be the Light at Christmas

The View - Dec 08, 2023

During winter I had to say goodbye to my beautiful mum. I spent several weeks with her as she slowly slipped away. During those precious days and weeks there was a constant stream of people who came to visit from near and far. At a time when I was overcome with sadness, I heard countless stories of how my mum had impacted her neighbours, workmates, church members and friends. As I listened to all of the stories, I was amazed at my mum’s legacy. Her impact came in the form of a life of service. Through small acts of kindness she made people feel heard, loved and valued.

At Avondale School we believe that our faith is strongest when expressed through service to others. As Christians we are called to be the light in this world. Just as light dispels darkness, serving others brings light to the lives of those in need. Our acts of selfless service shine a metaphorical light in the darkest of places, bringing hope.

Our hope for every student is that they can make an impact on their world. We inspire our students to create a legacy of kindness everywhere they go. As we provide opportunities for our students to serve in their school, community and the wider world, we pray that they develop a passion to make a difference. We firmly believe that as our students find their God-given purpose, they're why, they will become lights in a dark world.

In a season where our children are focused on what they will get, I encourage you to look for ways that your family can give, care and serve. This is how we shine the brightest.

You’re here to be light, bringing out the God-colours in the world. Mathew 5:14 MSG
