Enthusiasm is Contagious

The View - Sept 01, 2023

What gets you out of bed each day when laziness may call you to hide from the day’s duties?

Being enthusiastic can change the whole way you view the day. Not only does it create a better environment for everyone, enthusiasm is contagious! We can choose which way to see the world. Our choices not only affect us but those around us as well. Have you ever noticed that when you hang out with people filled with enthusiasm, you can’t help but feel positive and enthusiastic. Alternatively, if you associate with people that constantly complain about life you can sometimes feel dragged down and sit in that negative space with them for a while. Which person would you rather be? Dale Carnegie famously said "if you want to be enthusiastic, act enthusiastic". That sounds easy but sometimes we may need to specifically make a conscious effort. Some ways we can increase our enthusiasm could be to intentionally:

  • Communicate positively.
  • Maintain a positive mindset.
  • Be open to different points of view.
  • Encourage others.
  • Look for the positives in every situation.
  • Explore new ideas and be curious.
  • Listen to motivational speakers and music.
  • Use your passions to increase productivity.
  • Celebrate the successes of others.
  • Have an accountability partner.
  • Start a gratitude journal.
  • Find what brings you joy.
  • Have fun.

Work with enthusiasm, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people. Ephesians 6:7 (NLT).

God intends for us to live and work enthusiastically so that we can live our best lives and also be a positive influence on others. There are no downsides to enthusiasm. It’s attractive, contagious, provides opportunities, positively affects others and can change your entire experience.

Some valuable questions you could discuss around the dinner table tonight:

1. What makes you jump out of bed and be excited about the day?

2. What can you do to help others be enthusiastic about life?
