Avondale School was proud to once again host the annual HRIS Cross Country event—this year held on a different course at Avondale University to avoid as much mud as possible. Despite the challenging conditions, the day ran smoothly.
The competition among the 20 participating schools was incredibly close. Our Primary team finished a commendable 4th overall, while the Secondary team placed a very close 3rd - just 20 points shy of 2nd place. Notably, the 17 Years Boys and 12 Years Girls both won their age pennants.
Congratulations to our Age Champions: Luke S, Siena C, Nathan L, and Claire G, who proudly received their medallions at Monday’s assembly. We’re thrilled to announce that 22 of our Secondary students have been selected to represent HRIS at the upcoming AICES carnival in Sydney on May 29. Additionally, 9 of our Primary students have qualified for the CIS carnival, which will take place on June 12.
A special thank you goes to Mrs Mesaric and her dedicated team of parents, staff, and students who managed a highly successful canteen throughout the day. We’re also grateful to Avondale University and their PDHPE students for assisting as event officials in the morning, and to our Secondary volunteers who stepped in during the afternoon.
The event’s success would not have been possible without the commitment of staff who contributed countless hours behind the scenes—thank you for your dedication. It was a fantastic day of sport, school spirit, and achievement—we’re already looking forward to next year’s event, hopefully on a drier track!
