Justice

The View - Nov 11, 2022

Our children and young people are part of a generation who see the world differently to their parents. They have at their finger-tips technology that allows them to find information readily, stay in constant contact with others and see news unfolding in real time. While this has its disadvantages, it seems this generation is tolerant of the differences in others and responsive to the call for equality and justice. Millennials and Gen Ys are passionate about driving change in their world. They are becoming more politically informed, and they choose to spend their money with companies that reflect their values. They believe in the power of the individual to make an impact in the world.

As Christians we believe that God calls us to seek justice and have an impact on issues of equity. By following Jesus’ example our young people can strive to combat poverty, captivity, discrimination, and oppression. Jesus walked with the weak and removed people’s shame. He empowered the powerless and provided a voice for those who could not advocate for themselves.

World changing actions may seem unrealistic, but at Avondale School we strive to provide our students with meaningful ways to make a difference in our school community and the wider community. We provide our students with opportunities to develop empathy, respect and understanding, along with the courage to use their voice to call for change. Through Bible classes, Chapels, community service opportunities, fundraising and PBL units, our students learn, grow and choose to act.

Every action, no matter how small, creates a ripple that spreads. What ripple could we start?

The Lord God has told us  what is right  and what he demands:  “See that justice is done,  let mercy be your first concern,  and humbly obey your God.” Micah 6:8
