National Reconciliation Week

Primary News - May 30, 2025

This week, we celebrated National Reconciliation Week. Reconciliation Week invites us to reflect on Australia’s shared histories and build bridges of understanding between Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander, and non-Indigenous Australians. By embracing truth, respect, and shared responsibility, we create stronger, more inclusive environments both at school and in our wider community.

Students in our Primary School were encouraged to celebrate the richness of our diverse cultural heritage and consider what a harmonious future could look like. Our student leaders introduced this year’s theme, 'Bridging Now to Next', at assembly on Monday morning. Throughout the week, students engaged in learning through stories, videos and discussions. They were encouraged to make a pledge, either as a class or individually, recognising what they can do now, and next, in order to be more inclusive. These pledges were displayed on a tree in the iCentre, where students were also read Walking Together, a book that highlights the need for all Australians to walk with hope towards a more positive future.

Students in Stages 2 and 3 have also embarked on a Minecraft project in Digital Technology entitled 'Voices of the Next Generation - Building a Better Future'. This project invites students to imagine and design a space that represents reconciliation through the eyes of the next generation. Videos of these projects will be showcased at our school’s NAIDOC Week celebrations later in the year.
