Nine of our Primary students recently travelled to Central Coast Adventist School to take part in an exciting interschool Robotics Day, competing alongside students from Macquarie College, Green Point Christian School, and Central Coast Adventist School. The competition was set on the thrilling new Submerged-themed map, where teams were challenged to design, build, and code robots to complete underwater-themed missions and score points.
Students worked in groups to build robots that could interact with the map and complete a series of challenges. They had the entire day to innovate, redesign, test, and compete as many times as possible to maximise their score. The competition drew on a broad range of skills, including critical thinking, computational thinking, creativity, effective communication, and collaboration. Our students excelled, displaying all these attributes in the way they conducted themselves throughout the day. They tackled problems with persistence, supported each other, and represented our school with pride.
A special congratulations to Zoe P and Zoe C, who were awarded the Spirit Award for their outstanding critical thinking and determination. Despite facing technical difficulties, they never gave up, what an incredible display of perseverance and teamwork! Congratulations also to Antigone C and Liliana S, who achieved the highest score for Avondale with an impressive 140 points, the third highest score of the entire day! We’re so proud of their creativity and problem-solving skills.
A huge thank you to Mrs Quinn Rijavec, who runs our Robotics Club during lunchtimes and continues to inspire and equip our students with the skills they need to thrive in these competitive environments. We will be attending another robotics event next term and are proud to be hosting our own in Term 4. We are also excited to announce that Central Coast Grammar School will be joining us for future events. It’s amazing to see students growing and thriving in their passions areas. With the skills of our Robotics Club, the future is looking bright!
