As part of Reconciliation Week, Avondale School proudly unveiled new artworks created through a collaboration between students and Indigenous artist Saretta. The project brought together First Nations students and other students passionate about inclusion, belonging, and celebrating the diversity of our school community.
Installed across both the Primary and Secondary Campuses, the artworks acknowledge our school's place on Awabakal Country and tell a story of connection, culture, and shared journey. Meeting circles linked by flowing songlines represent students, families, and staff from Awabakal, Wonnarua, and Darkinjung countries coming together as one community. The Elders’ symbol highlights the passing of wisdom and knowledge between generations and the important role of teachers, families, and community members in guiding young people.
Waterways representing Dora Creek and Lake Macquarie flow through the artwork, symbolising life, connection, and the sharing of knowledge. Native animals, birdlife, mountains, and flourishing trees celebrate the beauty and resilience of Country while reminding us of our responsibility to care for creation and one another.
These meaningful artworks will serve as a lasting reminder of our commitment to respect, inclusion, and reconciliation, and of the strength that comes from walking forward together.
