Secondary Basketball Nationals

Secondary News - Dec 08, 2023

Last week 185 teams with a total of over 2,000 students from around Australia descended on the Gold Coast to participate in the Australian School Basketball Championships. Avondale School entered 6 teams with 57 students from Year 7 through to 12. Our students have been training throughout the year and it was awesome to see them step up to the challenge of playing schools they had never met. The week began with the Opening Ceremony taking place at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre where we were able to hear from Sandy Brondello (Opals Head Coach), Brian Goorjian (Boomers Head Coach) and Andrew Bogut (Former Boomer and NBA Champion). It was an exciting week with some impressive wins and students making the most of the opportunity to learn and become their best selves on and off the court. We are proud of each of our athletes and the hard work they have put in leading up to this tournament and throughout the week. We are looking forward to using this experience to start 2024 even stronger.
