Our recent Avondale School Music Tour saw students from Years 6-12 come together for a six-day journey across Queensland, sharing the love of music through our Orchestra and Choir. Over the course of seven performances and a Vespers program, students brought both their secular and sacred repertoires to life, performing in large schools, small schools, and churches. Each stop offered unique opportunities to inspire, uplift, and connect with new communities.
One of the highlights was seeing our students rise to the challenge of travel, performances, and the demands of tour life - supporting one another and developing a true sense of teamwork. From unloading and setting up equipment to rehearsing and performing, students consistently demonstrated maturity and dedication. Staff were especially proud of the way students took initiative, often working together without needing reminders.
A standout moment came during our time at Gold Coast Christian College, where our students not only performed beautifully but stepped into mentorship roles - interacting with younger students and inspiring them on their own musical journeys. As one student reflected, “When they (audience) get excited, I get excited and play better, and when we play and sing better, they (audience) respond better!.” The growth and improvement of our students in their musical performances throughout the duration of the trip was extensive and we are keen to continue that upwards trend.
Our rest day at Dreamworld offered a well-earned chance for students to recharge, have fun, and simply enjoy being kids. Laughter and excitement filled the air as students tackled thrilling rides, creating memories that will last a lifetime. Our final night of ten-pin bowling wrapped up the tour with plenty of smiles and camaraderie.
More than just another school camp, this tour allowed students to experience the joy of giving back through music. They learned the value of putting others first - shifting from a mindset of “what can I get from this?” to “how can I bring joy to others?” This transformation was evident as they poured their hearts into every performance.
Though the trip was long and exhaustion set in by the end, the growth, teamwork, and moments of pure joy made every mile worth it. We are incredibly proud of our students and grateful to the staff, volunteers, and community members who made this unforgettable experience possible. Here’s to the power of music, the bonds of a tour family, and the memories we’ll cherish for years to come.
