We don’t know her name. We actually don’t know much of her story. We do know that she had been taken captive from her land. That she was a servant to the wife of Naaman, the man who commanded the army who took her captive. She could have stayed silent when he got leprosy. It wasn’t her problem, plus he was the enemy. Instead though, she listened to the Quiet Voice speaking to her heart and she spoke of a prophet back at home in Samaria who, through the power of God, could heal her master.
Susan Scott once said, “While no single conversation is guaranteed to transform a company, a relationship, or a life, any single conversation can. Speak and listen as if this is the most important conversation you will ever have with this person. It could be. Participate as if it matters. It does.” The young girl who was taken captive could have chosen to say nothing, do nothing. To stay silent when she had life changing information. Instead she acted. She stepped up and spoke up. And Naaman lived.
There is an ancient Greek word, Kairos. It means, ‘the right time, the appointed time’. A time to act. To step up. This year as part of our Kairos program we have been asking some questions of our Year 10's and maybe you might like to consider them yourself.
God is calling each one of us to consider our place in this beautiful, chaotic world. Romans 12:2 shares the challenge to, "not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is, His good, pleasing and perfect will."
'As children of God, we are called to live generous lives of service, wherever we may find ourselves. In Week 7 of this term our Year 10 students are going to be living out service in our community through backyard blitzes, connecting with our senior citizens and many other activities. They will also be learning essential life skills from our community members to equip them for their adventures ahead.
Life is lived best in community where we can learn and serve alongside each other. It’s time. It’s the right time. To step up and live the lives that we were designed for.
James Clear shares that,"Every action you take is a vote for the type of person you wish to become."
This is life. What are you going to do with it?
