Year 10 Jindabyne Camp

Secondary News - Dec 01, 2023

We are delighted to share the exciting and unforgettable experiences from our Year 10 Camp to Jindabyne last week. This adventure-packed trip was filled with outdoor activities, breath taking landscapes, and valuable team-building moments. We stayed at the picturesque Adventist Alpine Village, surrounded by the beauty of nature and even had the pleasure of encountering resident wombats—a highlight cherished by all.

The camp kicked off with a remarkable 14km hike up Australia's highest peak - Mount Kosciuszko, standing at an elevation of 2,228m. The journey was made even more exhilarating by the low-lying clouds and a sprinkle of rain along the way. The students embarked on this challenging trek after enjoying a scenic chairlift ride up from Thredbo Village, adding an extra layer of excitement to the adventure.

Wednesday was a day of exploration and fun as our students biked around and kayaked on the serene Lake Jindabyne. The kayak journey around Curiosity Rocks left a lasting impression on our young adventurers. The incredible views and the joy of paddling across the lake created memories that will undoubtedly last a lifetime.

As we headed back home, we made a stop at The Australian Institute of Sport for an exclusive tour of their world-class training facilities. Our students were captivated by the behind-the-scenes look at elite athlete training and had the opportunity to explore Sportex - an educational and engaging sports experience. From wheelchair basketball to virtual downhill skiing, rock climbing, and football penalty shootouts, our students were able to try a variety of activities, broadening their perspectives on sports and athleticism.

One remarkable aspect of the trip was the unpredictable weather. Despite a forecast of storms and heavy rain each day, all activities proceeded as planned, with only the bobsled at Thredbo being affected - God is great!

Our Avondale School students had an incredible time during this camp, representing themselves, their families, and our school with pride. The Year 10 Camp to Jindabyne was not just an adventure; it was a journey of self-discovery, camaraderie, and building memories that will last a lifetime.
