Year 10 students had another opportunity to do some Work Experience last week and it was great for them to experience a range of settings including aged care, health sciences, education, animal care, local government, trades, accountancy, retail, automotive and aviation.
Students learn a lot about careers when they see them in action. They also learn a lot about themselves in the process; do they like working as a part of a team? Can they see themselves as a leader? Do they prefer active or passive jobs? Can they function in a high stress environment or are they more suited to calmer roles? Are they willing to do a job that may seriously contribute to people’s health and wellbeing but requires sacrifice?
Work Experience and Work Placement are great chances for students to recognise their own work values and see a vision of themselves functioning in the adult world (and that is approaching very quickly!).
