This week our Year 11 Biology students headed to Catherine Hill Bay for a field trip that perfectly combined science and sunshine. Under clear skies and warm spring weather, students investigated the rocky shore environment, measuring both biotic and abiotic factors. Using transect lines, they surveyed species diversity and observed clear patterns of zonation across the shore.
The excursion, organised by Mrs Stanculescu and supported by Mr Vogel, gave students valuable hands-on experience in ecological fieldwork while reinforcing key syllabus concepts. Of course, no beach trip would be complete without some fun—students cooled off with a swim and enjoyed a game of touch football on the sand.It was a fantastic day of learning, teamwork, and enjoying the outdoors, showcasing how science comes alive beyond the classroom.
