Year 11 Business Services & PROPEL Excursion

Secondary News - June 20, 2025

A group of students from Year 11 Business Services and Year 11 PROPEL had the opportunity to visit Newcastle Airport this week. The Airport General Operations Manager was kind enough to take time out of his day to take us behind the scenes and give an understanding of how the airport operates. We had a tour of the baggage handling and security area, spent time out on the tarmac seeing airplanes and operations up close, and had a walkthrough of the centre of operations tower. The RAAF fighter jets were also out on full display, giving us an entertaining and noisy show. The main focus of the excursion was learning about effective communication in an industry, looking at industry specific regulations and legislation with regard to safety, and exploring career opportunities in an airport context. The airport staff were very accommodating and generous with their time, and the opportunity to see practical application of the concepts that have been covered in class was appreciated by all.
