Year 12 Business Services Escape Room Excursion

Secondary News - May 31, 2024

The Year 12 Business Services class put into practice some of the theory learned in their current module ‘Apply Critical Thinking Skills in a Team Environment’. The class voted on which room they wanted to experience, and opted for the 'expert' level room, even though they were advised that very few people successfully escape within the time frame. The experience saw them trapped inside a lab at the Hunter Nuclear Reactor, needing to solve puzzles in order to gain access to the reactor core and stop it from melting down, and hopefully saving Newcastle. The puzzles and riddles were extremely difficult, prompting the group to work efficiently as a team, communicate with each other, use their varied skill set to solve the puzzles and manage the stress of the situation. Even though it was a simulation, the emotions were real! The time passed quickly, and although they managed to solve a significant portion of the puzzles, unfortunately they did not gain access to the core in time to prevent the meltdown. The group can be very proud of their efforts, and of the ways they worked together to problem solve and work towards a common goal. Every person was actively involved and contributed to the experience in a meaningful way.
