This year, our Year 12 students chose a very different kind of 'Schoolies': a two-week service trip to Cambodia with Restore One. What unfolded was a powerful blend of cultural learning, community connection, and personal growth.
The trip began in Phnom Penh, where students explored Cambodia’s painful history and visited organisations supporting women and girls. These experiences set context and tone for the days ahead — thoughtful, eye-opening, and deeply grounding. In the Restore One village, students stepped wholeheartedly into service. They taught hygiene and English classes, helped with painting and bamboo roofing, ran a sports carnival, supported preschool learning, and worked alongside local families. Market challenges, cooking under stilted homes, and games with Khmer students quickly became highlights and sparked genuine cross-cultural friendships.
The final days in Siem Reap brought wonder and reflection — sunrise at Angkor Wat, the towering faces of Bayon, the jungle-wrapped ruins of Ta Prohm, the life-saving HeroRats at APOPO, and meaningful visits to artisan workshops and the War Museum.
Across every moment, our students grew in resilience, gratitude, cultural awareness, and confidence. They learned to look beyond themselves, appreciate what truly matters, and value community in a new way.
This trip is an amazing opportunities to do ‘Schoolies’ differently — full of heart, service, adventure, and memories that will last a lifetime. As a school we are so blessed to be able to partner with Tanya at Restore One to offer this experience to our Year 12 students, and we look forward to a new group stepping up for next year!
