Last week our Year 2 students travelled back to 1896 during their excursion to Sunnyside, the historic home of Ellen White, a pioneer of the Seventh-day Adventist Church and the most translated female author in history. Ellen White played a vital role in shaping our global Adventist education system—and without her vision and dedication, Avondale School would not exist today! The students were immersed in the past as they toured Ellen White’s home, dressed in old fashioned costumes, and participated in hands-on heritage activities. They enjoyed treasure hunting, washing clothes with a washboard and wooden pegs, cooking damper, churning butter, identifying historical artefacts and discussing how they have changed over time, and playing old-fashioned games. It was a memorable day of learning, fun, and deepening appreciation for the Adventist heritage!
