Year 8 Picture Books with Kindy

Secondary News - Sept 22, 2023

Year 8 English students have recently completed their Picture Book PBL in which they were creating their own picture book for the target audience of our Kindy students. At the outset of the unit, the students visited with the Kindies to learn about their likes and dislikes, and how to best meet their needs in the visual and textual elements of the books. We also had the privilege of local illustrator, Jenni Goodman, presenting to the students on her experience in creating picture books and students were inspired by her knowledge of the industry and ability to tell stories powerfully through her drawings. In the creative process many students showcased an outstanding ability to harness illustrations to communicate with their readers - either through their own artistic talent, or through utilising and manipulating existing images to craft a visual story. Similarly, many students excelled in composing captivating rhyme, establishing rhythm, and showcasing a range of other textual features to engage their audience. After completing the task, the students took their finished picture books back to Kindergarten to share their books. The Kindergarten students were excited to experience the new stories and we are very proud of what our Year 8 students composed!
