This term our Student Representative Council (SRC) led a school-wide fundraiser with a vision that went beyond simply raising money. Our students were passionate about doing something meaningful for children and families facing serious health challenges, including cancer. In addition to collecting donations, every class across the school created hundreds of heartfelt cards to brighten the days of patients and their families. The result was both inspiring and impactful: together as a school community we raised just shy of $2700.
Our Primary SRC even connected with Morgan from Ronald McDonald House via Teams to learn more about how our efforts could help. Plans are now underway for some of our top fundraisers to visit Ronald McDonald House on an excursion, where they will personally present the funds raised and deliver the cards our students have made. This will give them a chance to see firsthand how their generosity is making a difference.
A special highlight of the campaign came thanks to Mr Hernandez, who enthusiastically volunteered to have his hair cut to support the cause. Our highest fundraising class, 6K (Mrs Kosmeier’s class), earned the privilege of becoming the 'hairdressers for a day'. With clippers and scissors in hand, they took turns shaving patches and cutting chunks of hair while the rest of the school cheered them on.A huge well done to Zara G, Milho M, and Antigone C, who contributed significantly to their class’s outstanding fundraising effort. Their teamwork and enthusiasm helped drive the success of the initiative.
This fundraiser has been a powerful example of what happens when our students combine creativity, compassion and commitment. We are incredibly proud of their heart to serve, their willingness to get hands-on, and their drive to make a tangible difference for families who are doing it tough.
