Students at Avondale School will have the opportunity to excel in Industrial Technology Metal due to upgrades to the metal working space and combined with a rich heritage in project-based learning. As such, this course enables students to develop knowledge, skills and real-life working values as they learn to safely use metal technologies and techniques in an industrial environment.
Although Industrial Technology is primarily skill based, students will have the opportunity to follow a design process where they learn to apply their creativity by planning, developing, constructing and evaluating quality projects. Critical thinking is fostered as practical problems are solved during project realisation and communication skills enhanced as written reports, a case study, and project management folios are generated. Students spend the majority of course time undertaking practical learning activities.
Students develop knowledge and understanding of materials and processes. Related knowledge and skills are developed through a specialised approach to the tools, materials, equipment and techniques employed in the planning, development, construction and evaluation of quality practical projects and processes. Critical thinking skills are developed through engagement with creative practical problem-solving activities.
Proposed Projects Year 9: A collection of sheet metal projects and candelabra
Proposed Projects Year 10: Billy kart and free choice
A significant portion of student assessment is based on management and completion of quality metal projects, Project Management Folios, research tasks, Computer Aided Design (CAD) drawing, report writing are other assessment items used in this course.
The cost of consumables and projects made in Year 9 are covered in subject fees. However, the cost of the Major Practical Project in Year 10 is shared, students will have the majority of project costs covered but there may be some individual components that a student will need to provide themselves.
The Stage 5 Industrial Technology course provides a positive grounding for students who study HSC subjects such as Design and Technology and the VET subject, Construction.
