Stage 6 - Fitness [VET]

Course Overview

This qualification is designed for learners who want to undertand the role of group and gym fitness instructors. Individuals will gain skills and knowledge to plan and deliver group exercise sessions, personalised instruction, use discretion and judgement to solve routine issues and provide ongoing client monitoring, under supervision.

Course Content

Certificate III in Fitness qualification combines a solid theoretical framework with hands-on practical experience across a range of areas such as anatomy and physiology, health screening, nutrition, and session design. It will also teach you how to conduct health and fitness assessments on clients and use the information to develop tailored fitness programs to achieve their goals. You will also learn how to analyse movement to enable you to assist gym members with correct technique and equipment usage.

At the successful conclusion of the 240 hour course students can gain a Statement of Attainment towards the nationally recognised certificate: SIS30321 Certificate III in Fitness. If they complete the extra 60 hours (the 300 hour course) students will receive their SIS30321Certificate in Fitness.

Once you graduate, you will be ready to start working as a fully qualified fitness instructor, making you a highly valuable member of any gym staff both in Australia and overseas.

This qualification is also a great stepping stone toward studying the Certificate IV in Fitness and taking the next step to become a Personal Trainer.

Work Placement

Mandatory NESA Work Placement is 35 hours for the 240 hour course and 70 hours for the 300 hours.

Assessment

Assessment is competency based and can include:

  • observation during class and work placement
  • written tasks
  • practical tasks
  • skills tests
  • competency tests

To be assessed as competent, a student must demonstrate to a qualified assessor that they can effectively carry out various tasks to industry standard.
