Sport Coaching is designed for students who enjoy sport, working with others, and want to develop leadership skills in coaching. The course gives students the practical knowledge and hands-on experience needed to assist or run community-level coaching sessions.
The Sport Coaching course covers the essential skills and knowledge needed to coach athletes in community sport settings. Students learn the foundations of effective coaching, including communication, leadership and ethical responsibilities, while also developing the ability to plan and deliver safe, engaging and skill-appropriate training sessions. The course explores athlete development, motivation and inclusion, teaching students how to support participants of different ages and abilities. Safety and risk management are key components, with students learning how to supervise activities responsibly and maintain a safe sporting environment.
Mandatory 35 hours of work placement must be undertaken in this course when students are deemed workplace ready. Work placement is a NESA mandatory requirement.
Students are required to complete ‘competency tasks’ to demonstrate their abilities as ‘competent’ or ‘not yet competent’ in each of the units.
There are no prerequisites for this course, however students who have completed Year 9 and 10 Personal Development, Health and Physical Education and Physical Activity and Sports Studies will have a distinct advantage.
