The School uniform is intended to give each student an identification with the School and is an important contribution to school tone. The wearing of uniform is a mark of loyalty to all that the School stands for and it assists student's identify with and pride in their membership to Avondale School. The School uniform permits students to be free from competition on the basis of fashion trends and minimises competition on the basis of socioeconomic status. It helps to teach students to abide by rules of uniform, grooming and appearance and assists Avondale School in presenting a consistent image in the community.
Students are to wear the correct uniform to the school each day and are to ensure it is maintained and in good condition. They are expected to maintain a high standard of dress, always wearing the school uniform in a neat and tidy manner. This includes travelling to and from school, at the school, at formal school functions and on all excursions (unless stated otherwise).
Summer uniform must be worn in Terms 1 and 4 and winter uniform must be worn in Terms 2 and 3. Any deviation to summer or winter uniform will be determined by the Principal, according to weather patterns. Sports uniform is to be worn on regular sport days or swimming days.
Parents have a responsibility to ensure their children leave home each day correctly attired and that their grooming is of an acceptable standard. Students are responsible for their uniform whilst at school and staff will assist in this task. Students are not permitted to write on uniforms or bags, or get their uniform wet in water fights.
Please ensure that all articles are marked clearly with the student’s name.
It is not the School’s responsibility that a student who spends money in breach of the uniform code has to further spend more money in order to remove or correct this item. It is advisable that students and parents contact Administration to see whether the item is permitted before having the procedure.
The Principal, Heads of School and Assistant Heads of School have the final word on uniform. Non-compliance with these uniform requirements may result in:

School Hats
The following applies to school hats:
School Bags
Avondale School supplied bags are compulsory. Students in K-2 require a homework wallet.
Hairstyle
Hair must be of a natural colour, should be neat, clean and kept clear of the eyes and off the face. Obvious multiple colours in the hair are not permitted. Extreme hairstyles such as undercuts, tracks, steps, spikes, mohawks, mullets, wedges, rattails, dreadlocks or similar, and cuts less than a #2 blade are not permitted. Long hair may be required to be tied back.
Hair accessories must be simple and functional in white, navy or black. Hair accessories are not to be worn on the wrist.
While the acceptability of any hairstyle is at the discretion of the Principal, all students are expected to abide by the Policy as a condition of enrolment.
Jewellery
Jewellery (including rings, bracelets, necklaces, chains, anklets, and wristbands) is not part of school uniform and is not to be worn.
Students may wear one (1) pair of round plain gold or silver 3mm studs or 10-12mm standard size sleepers in the lower earlobes. Earrings are not permitted to be worn in other parts of the ear (eg. Helix, Tragus). One invisible plastic spacer is acceptable in each ear. Piercings concealed by a band aid are not acceptable. Placing jewellery (eg. spacer, studs) to maintain an opening in other visible body piercings (eg. tongue, nose, eyebrows etc.) is not permitted.
Watches are to be plain, simple banded and have time functions only. Watches are not to have SMS, call making, internet connection or video recording capabilities. Please refer to the schools ‘Mobile Devices Policy’ for Smart Watches.Swimwear
Swimwear is to be modest and protective from the sun. Students are required to wear a rash shirt for all swimming activities except for participation in a competitive event. Board shorts are also to be worn for all swimming activities except for training and competition events (eg. excursions and camps). Competition swimwear needs to ensure modest coverage and should be a one-piece design for girls.
Clothing Under Uniform
Any articles of clothing worn under school uniform, such as T-shirts or skivvies, shorts, bike pants, etc. must not be visible.
Out of Uniform Procedure
Where a child needs to wear a non-uniform item (eg. shoes wet from constant rain) the School requires parents/guardians to send a note of explanation. This should be given to the Class Teacher. Uniform items need to be replaced within one week.
Effort should be made to ensure uniform items are ready. 'In the wash' should not be an excuse for being out of uniform. If students must come out of uniform, only the item that is not available should be substituted. This does not allow for the full sports uniform to be used in replacement for a single school uniform item. Non-uniform items should be as close to the original as possible, neat, modest and not drawing attention to the wearer.
Mufti Day and Non-Uniform Events
Clothing that is worn on mufti days, non uniform excursions and non uniform school events must at all times uphold the ethos, values and standard of Avondale School. Students are to dress modestly on ‘free dress’ days.
Students deemed to be dressed inappropriately may be required to rectify the problem by being:
School Uniform Outside of School Hours
It is expected that students wear full school uniform (including ties and shoes) when travelling to and from school, both in and out of school grounds; including bus stops, walking to and from school. When the school uniform is being worn, students still represent the school and it is appropriate for the students to still have respect for the School outside school hours by wearing the uniform correctly.
The uniform described in this policy is compulsory for all students enrolling at the school.
The School Administration is the final arbiter regarding student deportment. Parents and students are expected to respect the rulings on these issues.
